Bali Chai Women’s Cooperative
Traditional Balinese society demands a great deal of its gentle women. Daily, in additional to all of the household obligations, it is the women who are charged with the spiritual well-being of their familities. Each day, it is the women who patiently create elaborate offerings of flowers, fruit and incense which they disburse in their family temples, all around their family compounds, and everywhere in their simple villages. One sees them walking everywhere, swaying gently as they balance on their heads towering offerings of fruit and flowers to adorn village temples.
Very little time or opportunity remains for women to earn their own money. The crafting of these beadwork fashion accessories empowers the Balinese women of this village cooperative, giving them the opportunity to earn funds to care for their children while it contributes to the sustainable development of the entire village community.
