Decorative Details
In 1990, Decorative Details, a Fair Trader, was started in a makeshift garage in the Eastern Cape, and today they work out of their own factory.
The company manufactured and supplied resin curtain accessories to a locally based international company that distributed our products worldwide. The products were showcased in Europe, America and the UK. Unfortunately, due to the downturn in the economy in 2009, their primary customer was liquidated and Decorative Details had to re-focus and re-invent itself. New and creative ways of using molds enable them to design some practical and fun items for the home. Today, Decorative Details specializes in reclaiming, up-cycling and re-purposing wooden and resin items to create some beautiful products. Anne, the founder, speaks fluent Xhosa (the local black dialect). Anne explains, “We spoke Xhosa on the farm where I grew up and now it helps me communicate better with many of those who work in the factory.” Anne remains fully and actively involved in the business. Her ultimate motivation? Anne is passionate about creating employment in her local community and in so doing, committed especially to employing and empowering local ladies. Many of the team members have been with her since the beginning, through the ups and downs - but always loyal. Anne ensures that each artisan is empowered with their own unique set of skills and responsibilities, giving each one a special pride in their work.
